Navigating life with a teenager….who happens to have bipolar disorder

What does one do in the fall if they are not one of the many pumpkin obsessed people?  Aside from a holiday decoration……I have no use for pumpkin. Everywhere you go it’s pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice cake, pumpkin coffee….latte…..frappuccino….oh, and pumpkin pie.

I never liked it….I never liked the smell of pumpkin guts as I carved my jack-o-lantern……I don’t like the texture……I don’t reminisce fondly about roasting pumpkin seeds when I was a kid. So I don’t follow the pumpkin spice crazed population.  I do, however….get very excited once the fall selections pass and the winter selections make their way to the corner coffee and donut shops.  I am a peppermint fiend……when you add chocolate to the peppermint, stay out of my way.

If I could sit in a cocoa bath….I think I would. Actually, I have heard you can at the Hershey Spa.

Tonight I went into a local Starbucks….not a place I usually go, and ordered a hot chocolate.  I was very excited to find out that they had peppermint hot chocolate.  After waiting way too long for them to complete my order, after they messed up once….I walked out very happy to have a hot cup of cocoa in my hands on this chilly night.  It was way too hot to drink, of course. so I had to wait to enjoy it.

About 20 minutes later it was finally cool enough to drink…..I took a deep breath of the scent and started to drink.  It……was……horrible.  Easily the worst cup of hot chocolate I have ever had in my life. Way to go on ruining my first ‘seasonal’ treat, Starbucks.  I probably would have been better off drinking a pumpkin spice latte.

  1. Not good to get an eeewwww of a hot cocoa treat from Starbucks as your first gift of the season, SC. Yucko. Tell them about it first chance you get. Maybe they’ll give you a freebie regular cup of joe to make up for it. I stick with Dunkin’. I have a Dunkin’ T-shirt that proclaims “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drink Starbucks.” Too strong for me. 😦

  2. I’ve never had pumpkin, I might just have to try a pumpkin product now to see what the fuss is about! To be honest, I’m with you with regards to the smell when carving it and the insides are sooooo unappealing too xx

    • The closest thing I come to pumpkin spice anything is a ‘fall’ scented candle that I like…..but it has a cinnamony type undertone to it. I am not a coffee drinker anyway…so I am not going to attempt to drink it….but I really don’t like any type of pastry, donut, bread or pie made out of it.
