What does one do in the fall if they are not one of the many pumpkin obsessed people? Aside from a holiday decoration……I have no use for pumpkin. Everywhere you go it’s pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice cake, pumpkin coffee….latte…..frappuccino….oh, and pumpkin pie.
I never liked it….I never liked the smell of pumpkin guts as I carved my jack-o-lantern……I don’t like the texture……I don’t reminisce fondly about roasting pumpkin seeds when I was a kid. So I don’t follow the pumpkin spice crazed population. I do, however….get very excited once the fall selections pass and the winter selections make their way to the corner coffee and donut shops. I am a peppermint fiend……when you add chocolate to the peppermint, stay out of my way.
Tonight I went into a local Starbucks….not a place I usually go, and ordered a hot chocolate. I was very excited to find out that they had peppermint hot chocolate. After waiting way too long for them to complete my order, after they messed up once….I walked out very happy to have a hot cup of cocoa in my hands on this chilly night. It was way too hot to drink, of course. so I had to wait to enjoy it.
About 20 minutes later it was finally cool enough to drink…..I took a deep breath of the scent and started to drink. It……was……horrible. Easily the worst cup of hot chocolate I have ever had in my life. Way to go on ruining my first ‘seasonal’ treat, Starbucks. I probably would have been better off drinking a pumpkin spice latte.
